Obituary For Anna Pauline Courneya

Our Mother, Anna, left this world on March 12, 2022. She came into the world on February 7, 1930. She had a good run during her life, she lived in Ohio, New York, Minnesota, and since 1960 in Auburn, Washington. The only daughter in a family of boys, she thrived and bloomed into the person that she became. Our Mom was not perfect, but she was close to a Saint on Earth. When we were young, she was a Camp Fire leader, den mother, and made lunches at Holy Family school for many years, even after her own children had left the school.

Her volunteering continued through her whole life. As a member of The Legion of Mary, she visited shut-ins and nursing homes. She often would just sit and visit with the elderly and lonely and would distribute communion to anyone that could not get to Mass. She brought cheer to everyone she met. You never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. For over twenty years she cared for her elderly mother, taking her into her home so she could be her caregiver. She did all of this without a driver's license, but that never stopped her. If my dad or one of her children was not home, she would call a lengthy list of friends to get her.

While we were growing up, many of our friends would drop by hoping to get lucky enough to be invited to sit at our table and enjoy her lasagna. Mom would never turn anyone away. She would just add a plate and take out some leftovers from the fridge to stretch out the meal. This was the example that she set for us. She walked the walk. Her beliefs were out front for all to see. I do not think that I ever met anyone that did not like or love her.

Her children, Paul, James, Mary Beth, and Dana all are saddened by her passing, but glad that she is finally pain free and with our father, the love of her life. She leaves behind ten grandkids and five great-grandkids.

Thanks Mom, for everything, we love you.
