Obituary For Betty Jean Mayner
Betty Jean (Foreman) Mayner was born January 29, 1936 in Portland, OR to Clair I. and Lois E. (O’Brien) Foreman. As a little girl she lived in many small towns in the Mt Hood National Forest area such as Cascade Locks, Zig Zag and Rhododendron, OR. Her father was with the US Forest Service and CCC Camps stationed in those areas. She often spoke of when she was young up in the mountains there was a cougar that would come each day and visit her. It was very gentle like a house cat. Her Mom would keep a close eye on her and the cat. She said that was her only friend out in the woods as there were no other children there.
When she was around 9 years old, she and her mom lived with her maternal grandparents in SE Portland while her dad was in the Navy in WW II. At the age of 11 her parents bought their first and only home also in SE Portland and moved into house in 1947. She was so happy to have her own bedroom.
Betty attended Ascension Catholic Grade School and Washington High School Class of 1954 in Portland. After graduation she moved to the Seattle area to care for her maternal grandparents.
In March 1955 she married Richard L. Mayner in Seattle, WA. She was a homemaker and raised 5 children in the Seattle suburb and Auburn, WA area. Her last residence was in Federal Way, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son James Lee Mayner. Betty is survived by 4 children Shelley Tilton, John (Melody), Tony, Mike (Donna) and many grandchildren, great grandchild And great great grandchildren and She is also survived by her sister Sharon (Foreman Garvin) Horrocks (Rich), nephew Drew Garvin (Erin) and 2 great nieces.
