Obituary For Bruce Eugene Courtright
On May 3rd, 2022, at 4:30 am Bruce Eugene Courtright died peacefully at Providence Hospice in Everett after battling heart failure and kidney disease. Bruce was a kind, strong, quiet, loving man whose focus in life was to watch over and care for his family. He liked to play baseball and horseshoes and often went to his nephews’ baseball games. For many years he took care of his mother, Florence Courtright, and his disabled brother Wayne Courtright. Later in life he moved to Marysville and helped his sister, Marilynn Albro, in her ceramic shop. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and mowed his sister’s lawn and a number of his neighbors’ lawns for many years. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching a Mariners game and having a meal with his family, especially at his favorite Mexican restaurant. Bruce was born in Spokane on August 11, 1921, the oldest of seven siblings. When he was young, he had a Spokane Chronicle paper route and as a result won a trip to Seattle and Victoria, B.C. He played in the Spokane Cannon Park touch football club when they won the city title three years in a row. In July of 1941 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed in Boston, Florida, and on ships in the Caribbean. He was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard in June of 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate First Class. He worked at the Armed Forces Depot in Auburn and then at the General Services Administration, where he drove forklift and worked in the warehouse until his early retirement in 1976. In 1989 he moved to Marysville where he lived for the rest of his life. He travelled with his sister and her husband (Marilynn and Robert F. Albro) around the country and accompanied them to ceramic shows up and down the west coast.
On August 11, 2021, Bruce celebrated his 100th birthday outside at his home with his family in person and via zoom. Bruce was surrounded by the love of family and friends in his last few months. He was very honored when Providence Hospice honored his status as a veteran. Bruce is survived by his niece, Robyn Albro (husband Karl Meyer) and grandnephew Jeremiah Meyer, nephew Robert Albro, Jr., and grandniece Vikki Galloway (husband Brian Pearson and their children), cousin Denise Blacker (husband Keith Blacker), brother-in-law’s sister Frances Rapin and her son and grandson Craig Spjut and Rick Spjut, and other nieces and nephews, Suzanne Price, Janis Novey, Doug Woods, Marisa Gariano, Roxanne Jones, Steve Woods, Dave Courtright, Don Woods, Dan Woods, Cheri Peel, Scott Courtright, Lori Biltoff, and Ron Courtright and cousin Rhonda Brammer, along with many more grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence Courtright, and siblings, Gary Courtright, Wayne Courtright, Roger Courtright, Anita Woods, Marilynn Albro and Robert Courtright.
There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, June 19th, 2022, at Noon at Glenwood Mobile Estates Clubhouse at 5900 64th St NE, Marysville, Washington.
