Obituary For Bruce Wakeman

On May 23, 2020, Bruce F. Wakeman, loving husband and father of three with three generations of grandchildren, passed away at the age of 89.

Bruce was born on April 29, 1931, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the son of Ray and Charlotte Wakeman. In 1948 he graduated from El Dorado High School in Placerville, California, and then joined the US Navy.

Bruce served honorably in the Korean War on the USS Toucan and USS Swift as an Engineman 1st Class/Refrigeration Technician in the engine room. During his US Navy tour he met the love of his life Gwendolyn Williams of Mountain Grove, Missouri.

Bruce and Gwendolyn married and moved to San Luis Obispo, California, where Bruce graduated as an Electrical Engineer from California Polytechnic State University. Bruce was recruited out of college by The Boeing Company in Seattle to work on military missile projects where he worked for 35 years.

Bruce developed a passion for flying where he got his private pilot license and was part owner in three different aircraft over the years in which the family flew around the United States on many vacations.

Bruce became a Mason in 1962 at King Solomon Lodge in Auburn; through his time in the Masonic Lodge he worked his way up to a 33rd Degree Mason. He was part of over five family generations of Masons and an active member of the King Solomon Lodge of Auburn and Maritime Lodge in Seattle

In addition, he worked with young men in the Boy Scouts and DeMolay. The Wakeman family were active members of the Auburn YMCA where Bruce worked many swim meets with his children. In 1975 he started running at the local school track and found his other passion; he went on to compete in several marathons.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Gwendolyn E. Wakeman; three children, Michael and wife Mary, Susan and husband Bob, David and wife Shanda; his brother Bob Wakeman; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
