Obituary For Douglas John Brandner
With Alyce at his side, Douglas John Brandner passed away peacefully into the presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ September 19, 2023.
Doug was passionate about his family and the families he served as an elder at Des Moines Gospel Chapel. Doug was a gentle, faithful man of integrity. A man who committed himself to do what he said he would do.
Doug was born June 14, 1934, in Maidstone, Saskatchewan, Canada to Hans and Margaret Brandner. Three years later, the young family moved to Germany to be closer to his grandparents in Magdeburg, Germany only to be trapped by the outbreak of the war in September of 1937. In 1949, Doug and his sister Joyce were given permission to immigrate to the United States and they arrived in Tacoma in January of 1950. Canon Arthur and Helen Bell took Doug into their home and cared for him as he began learning English and attending school. He graduated from Stadium High school three years later and graduated from University of Washington with a BS in mechanical engineering in 1958.
On June 27, 1958, he married Alyce, the love of his life. A few short months later, he was called to active duty with the USAF and was stationed at Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Alyce soon followed him to Newfoundland where they lived in a thirty-six-foot trailer, and where Paul was born two years later. In the meantime, Doug became a born-again believer in Christ during these solitary years on the small SAC base. The family returned to Washington, living in Kent where Doug returned to Boeing where he worked during college. Soon after, Doug, Alyce and Paul began attending Des Moines Gospel Chapel. After Christine arrived in 1962, they moved to the east hill of Auburn to live in their newly constructed home. Sarah joined the family in 1965, and with the family now complete, this became their home for 54 years.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, Hans Paul Brandner of Monchengladbach, Germany and Martha Margaret Colby of Tacoma, Washington and his sister, Joyce Brandner of Edgewood, Washington.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Alyce. His brother, Peter Brandner. His children Paul Brandner (Kimberly), Christine Krueger (Eddie), Sarah Holmes (Steve) and eight grandchildren: Caleb Holmes (Lauren), Angela Holmes, Hannah Holmes, Taylor Krueger, Lexie Krueger (Camden) Wulf, Allison McQuaid (Kemper), Aaron Brandner (Hailee), Hailey Shaffer (Nick) and 5 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Des Moines Gospel Chapel, located at 21914 7th Avenue Des Moines, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside Bible Camp at www.lakesidebiblecamp.org/donate.
