Obituary For Fred Paul Clyde
On September 14, 1930, in Page, Nebraska, Fred Paul Clyde was born to parents Henry Elmore Clyde and Edna Elizabeth VanKleek Clyde. Fred came into the world to join sister Delores Fern and brother Elmore Lewis. Sister Esther Elizabeth came two years later. In 1933, Fred’s family moved to Mission, South Dakota to stay with Edna’s VanKleek family. They weathered five “Dust Bowl” years while in South Dakota. In 1938 they moved to Washington State. That same year after moving, another sister, Marvalene June, was born. Another brother, Jerry Lee, was born in 1939. Tragically, Fred’s eldest sister Delores died later that year at age eleven. In 1941, while living in Covington, Fred’s parents started taking their family to Auburn Free Methodist Church. They moved from Covington to Auburn when Fred’s father got a job in the Tacoma shipyards. Fred was in 7 th grade at the time. Fred gave his life to Jesus while in grade school back in South Dakota but was baptized in 1944 in cold Lake Geneva along with his brother Elmore and sister Esther. On August 29, 1951, Fred was inducted into the Army. On June 15, 1952, just before being deployed to Korea, Fred Clyde & Marlene Wetmore became husband and wife. After arriving home from the war, Fred went back to work for Boeing where he worked for 42 years until his retirement on October 1, 1990. He began by working on airplanes and then moved onto various space projects as research mechanic. Fred continually used the many practical gifts and abilities God gave him to serve his family, the church, the church school, and many behind the scenes who needed his help. He kept things beautiful, in good repair and running well. Fred was always concerned that others would come to know Jesus and was instrumental in providing support to missionaries and pastors including his brother and son who were called to equip the church to fulfill this great commission. Fred went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 6 th , 2023, eight days before his 93 rd birthday. He was surrounded in prayerful and loving support by his beloved wife and family. Fred was a faithful servant of the Lord, a loving husband and wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all the days the Lord gave him here on earth. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, his dearly beloved wife, Marlene Wetmore Clyde, of 71 (going on 72) years of marriage. He also leaves behind a sister, Esther Clyde Hodson and four children and their families: son Rick (& Louise) Clyde, grandson Luke (& Caitlin) Clyde, grandson Peter (& Kayla) Clyde, with great-grandchildren Aaron, Asher, and Anna; son Dick (& Terri) Clyde, grandson Michael Clyde; son Dale (& Dawn) Clyde, great-grandchildren (from deceased granddaughter April Clyde) Ashlynn, Ty and Alena; granddaughter Lyssa (& Nick) Campbell, with great-grandchildren James and Kayla; daughter Denyse (&Dan) Touma, granddaughter Kirsten (& Tyler) Mortenson, granddaughter Lindsey Touma, and grandson Tyson Touma. Preceding Fred in death are parents Henry & Edna Clyde and siblings Delores, Elmore, Marvalene, and Jerry, brother-in-law Don, and sisters-in-law Arlene and Kathy. Also preceding him in death are granddaughter April Clyde and grandson Philip Clyde.
