Obituary For John Harold Waite

Obituary John Harold Waite of Marysville, WA died August 5, 2018 at the age of 91. John was born October 6, 1926 in Little Falls, MN to Harold and Rodella (Della) Waite. He was the second of four boys and one girl. As a baby his dad moved the family to Clarkston, WA where he grew up and graduated from high school. His favorite sport was boxing. He lettered every year in high school and went to the state championships. After graduation in 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, attended boot camp in Chicago and was trained as a Radar Technician. He was deployed from San Francisco to the final battle of WWII, Okinawa, where he served with the 6th Marines. He was on Okinawa when they dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Following WWII, John met and married the love of his life, Nancy (Jeri) Geraldine Gilliam from Pomeroy, WA on December 22, 1946. They moved to Puyallup, WA where he attended the University of Puget Sound on his GI Bill majoring in Business. Their first of two children, a son Douglas, was born in 1950. After college John relocated to Spokane, WA where their daughter Suzanne was born. John went to work for General Mills in their feed division, Larro Feeds, working his way up to manager moving to Lewiston, ID, Yakima, WA and back to Puyallup, WA. General Mills got out of the feed business and John left them to start a second career at Allstate Insurance. A natural born salesman, he soon became a District Sales Manager for Allstate moving to Yakima, WA, Bellevue, WA and Boise, ID where he retired at the age of 60. After retirement John and Jeri traveled and built houses on golf courses in Bellingham, WA and Sun City West, AZ where they lived for 20 years. They were very involved in both the Episcopal and United Methodist Churches wherever they lived. In 2012 John and Jeri relocated to assisted living in Kent, WA to be close to their two children. John's wife of almost 66 years died shortly after. He then moved in with his daughter in Marysville. John is predeceased by everyone in his family except his sister Beverly Gravink in Davis, CA. He leaves behind his two children Douglas of Kent, WA and Suzanne Wilen of Marysville, their spouses Gail and Harold, seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was a patriot, faithful husband, good dad and provider. He loved and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. John was a member of the greatest generation and was a good man and a great American. His service will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA August 15th at 11:30 A.M., viewing same day at Auburn Price-Helton Funeral Home 9-10. A reception will follow at Douglas Waite's 14155 SE 255th St, Meridian Valley Club (go to front gate first) in Kent following.
