Obituary For Mark William Thomas

Obituary Mark William Thomas (Moonzie), 60, of Auburn, WA, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Auburn Regional Medical Center, due to a long illness. Mark was born February 19, 1958, in Auburn, to Fred Thomas Sr. & Dixie (Hixon) Scherting. Mark was one of 6 children; Pam (Thomas) Stephens, Fred Thomas Jr., Joe Thomas, Jill Scherting and Connie Scherting. He lived in Auburn his entire life. As a child, Mark loved fishing, riding motorcycles & participation in lots of crazy ruckus on the family 5 acres, often referred to as "Thomasville". Mark attended Auburn schools & graduated from Auburn High School in 1976. He married Patty Winchell on July 14, 1979. Mark retired in 2013 from Puget Sound Energy, after being employed for 36 years as a lineman. He worked in many northwest storms, helping to restore power to numerous local residents. Mark was an avid fisherman & enjoyed many outdoor activities with his sons, Jason & Jesse, including camping, hunting, crabbing, shrimping and clam digging. He also loved gardening & assisted his mom in preserving the food he grew, as well as sharing the abundance of food with friends & family. Mark battled lupus & arthritis for over 30 years while also suffering from kidney disease & most recently heart disease. Mark was preceded in death by his son Jesse in 2002 and his father, Fred Sr. in 2011. He is survived by his wife Patty (Auburn), his son Jason (Nichole), their children Braydon 9, & Bryn 4 and Jesse's daughter Skylee 15. He is also survived by all 5 of his siblings, his mother & step father, Dixie & Ken Scherting (Shelton). There will be a Celebration of Mark's Life on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Grace Community Church - Auburn, WA
