She always wanted to play the piano and started learning to play at the age of four. She learned to play the piano by ear and provided many years of enjoyment for her family and friends playing for them. She also played for her church, nursing homes and assisted living homes. She loved playing the piano, traveling, making crafts, dancing, bowling, camping, playing card games, being active in her church and spending time with her family. She loved music and even learned to play the ukulele in her eighties.

She moved to Idaho with her husband Walt in 2005 where her daughter and son lived. She lost her husband in 2008. She was full of life, always positive and brought smiles to everyone she met. Grandma Joyce was a devoted follower of Jesus and encouraged and prayed for all that she knew.  Her example of faith and love inspired me and her loving words encouraged and challenged me.  She overflowed with love for everyone around her and was loved by all who met her.  It is a comfort to know that she now rests in heaven, enjoying a great reunion with her Lord and those who passed before her. When my grandpa met her, it was love at first sight. Grandma Joyce was my “second” grandma, welcoming us all into her family. She and Grandpa loved their new home in Idaho, but we missed being able to see them regularly. She lovingly cared for Grandpa though his illness and passing, always finding a way to see the positive. She blessed so many nurses and doctors and fellow patients and made sure that they all had a chance to hear about God’s love for them. I treasure memories of her beautiful voice, calling us all “Honey” in her Oklahoma drawl, all of the family Easter gatherings that she and Grandpa hosted, of her playing piano, of her smile, of her joy for living, of the mischievous twinkle in her eye, and of road trip adventures. Her passing is a powerful reminder to not put off making that phone call to say “Hi!”
