Obituary For Mary Tsujikawa

Mary Tsujikawa passed away January 2, 2022 peacefully at the age of 95. She was born Mary Chihara to first-generation Japanese immigrants on Bainbridge Island, WA, the youngest of eight children. The internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II brought her to the camp at Minidoka War Relocation Camp, where she graduated high school.

She later married Stan Tsujikawa and settled in Auburn where she was a lifelong resident and worked on the family berry farm as well as the Auburn School District for decades. In her retirement, Mary delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, particularly by cooking from closely held personal recipes.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Stan, in 2017. Mary is survived by sons Jay and Brian; daughters-in-law Laurel and Tami; grandchildren Ryan, Marcus (Jessica), Sarah, Shelly, Kendra and Brenna.

I'm so sorry I just found out Mary passed. I was a student at Chinook Elementary when I first met Mary. I was sent to the principals office, and I was really scared. She assured me it would be ok. I would see Mary often at Fred Meyer. What a sweet lady. We always talked of the good old days. I'd drive by her home while she worked in the yard. I'd stop and say hi. Thank you Mary for your beautiful smile. You will be missed. Ross Palmer, class of 76.
