Obituary For Noel Wayne Osburn
Noel Wayne Osburn, who in his adult life was known as Wayne N. Osburn, was born on March 10, 1931 in Sulphur City, Arkansas to Corrine and William Osburn. We had an identical twin, Joel, who passed away at six months of age.
After the first ten years of his youth, in 1941 the family moved to Seattle, WA. Wayne’s parents would seek work at the shipyards to help support the US War efforts in WWII.
Wayne would eventually be enrolled at West Seattle High School and graduate in 1949. During these years he would find a job at Swedish Hospital in the kitchen. He would there first meet the love of his life, Maryann Jaeger. They would marry on October 12, 1950.
Wayne sought and obtained employment at Elliot Bay Lumber Mill in the early 1950s. Around 1956 Wayne would go to work for George Olsen at the Delridge Way Texaco Service Station. It would be a prelude to his remaining working years. Once he was more knowledgeable about the service station operations, he would pursue his own Texaco location on Beacon Hill, in Seattle. He would be there for about two years until 1959, when he would move to manage a new Texaco station at 216th and Pacific Why South. He would stay in this location for about twenty-five years. He went on to complete his working years owning and managing an auto repair shop in Des Moines.
Wayne and Maryann would build a family in the 1950s. Donita was born in 1953, David was born in 1954, and Timothy was born in 1958. They would also have three homes to raise their family of five. The first two were in Seattle, and the third was a home built in 1962 in south King county.
For years, Wayne and Maryann took the family on annual family car trips, in a station wagon, to California to visit family and to visit Disneyland. There were also trips to visit Wayne’s childhood home in Arkansas and relatives in Oklahoma. Wayne and Maryann also enjoyed memorable road trips to Reno, Nevada with Wayne’s sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jerry Howick. The trips to eastern Washington to visit with his brother Gene and sister-in-law Dee, were cherished.
The grandchildren were the next cherished chapter in their lives as well. The family was blessed with eight grandchildren: Lindsay Deck, Andre Deck, Jacob Osburn, Joshua Osburn, Jamie Osburn, Angeline Furniss, Brittany Osburn, and Devon Osburn. Andrew and Jamie Deck would provide two great-grandchildren, Raygen Deck and Jetson Deck. Jacob and Rachel Osburn would have Bradley Osburn. Brittany and DJ Holden would have Autumn and Hunter Holden. Angeline and Nate Nilson have had Jaxson, Joslyn, and Jamie Nilson. And Jamie and Robert Marshall have had a son, Robert Thomas. During these years were many family gatherings and celebrations with many wonderful memories abound.
On October 22, 2000 Wayne and Maryann celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in Browns Point, WA. Unexpectedly, Maryann passed away on January 2nd, 2001. She is missed. Soon after Maryann’s passing, Wayne retired in Des Moines. On October 13, 2013 Wayne suffered a stroke. It would require, due to subsequent medical limitations, that he relocate to live within an assisted care facility in Federal Way named Brookdale. He would reside there for the remainder of his life. He passed away on May 5, 2021 of natural causes, at 90 years old. He is survived by his children Donita, Davit, and Tim; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Gene Osburn and his wife Barbara, sister Betty Howick, and a large number of nieces and nephews and their children.
