Obituary For Ronald Allen Engen
Ronald (Ron) Allen Engen
August 22, 1932 – October 31, 2021
Ron Engen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 31, 2021 at Arbor Village Memory Care in Kent, WA. When he was growing up his family moved many times as his father found jobs in various states. He lived in North Dakota, California and Washington and everywhere he moved he made new friends.
He graduated from Auburn High School in 1950. In 1951 he entered military service as an Air Policeman in the Air Force and served during the Korean War until 1955.
When he came home he opened a gym in Auburn along with a silent partner that stayed open for a period of time. While he lived in Auburn he worked at Rohr Aircraft, as a driver’s license examiner and construction. He decided to move to Los Angeles in 1961 where he started working for the postal service. He transferred to Auburn, WA in 1967 and worked a total of 41 years as a letter carrier. He worked on the same mail route for about 30 years in the Federal Way area and his patrons gave him a grand retirement party when he retired in 1999. His last job was working for Hertz for two years.
In June 1970 he married his wife Janet and together they had 2 daughters, Heather and Heidi. He was a devoted father and very hands-on in teaching them many things. He was deeply passionate about weight training. He exercised from the time he was a teenager until the Pandemic when he was 87 years of age. He was an avid reader and had a vast collection of books on many topics. He liked to socialize for much of his life but as he became disabled he loved being at home. He always said “home was his sanctuary”.
He was a very kind considerate man and was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Helmer Engen in 1980, his mother Evelyn Engen in 2002 and his brother Gene in 2016. He is survived by his spouse, Janet Engen, his daughter Heather Emerson and son-in-law Mike Emerson and his daughter Heidi Joy Engen and her partner Michael Reilly.
